Early on in motherhood I struggled, I found in the days as a new mother I was faced with some of the hardest moments of my life! I questioned if I was cut out for life as Modern Mum and remember feeling completely overwhelmed, extremely exhausted and completely “not myself”. I felt that everyone else around me had it figured out, but I was drowning!
The thing was though, I wasn’t myself anymore, I was a new version of me, and I was birthing the soul of the mother within. I had just been through a sacred journey of becoming a mother and I hadn’t even paused for one moment to acknowledge what a significant and incredible thing that was.
With my second child I slowed down and allowed myself to feel nurtured during pregnancy, I took time to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually after labour. I relaxed more as a new mum and surrendered to all things that I once tried to control (aka babies sleep). The difference in my approach second time around was that I applied yogic philosophy and teachings to my daily life. It was during this time that I truly discovered yoga and all the amazing benefits it can bring to your life. It wasn’t a gruelling vinyasa practice that brought me the solitude, calm and inner peace that I needed as a new mum. It was a gentle nurturing practice that allowed me to connect with myself. This is what I aim for every student who practices with me experiences.
